Over the past few years, Hit Box Sports Cards has grown far beyond what I ever expected. What started as a small idea has turned into a global community of collectors, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received along the way.
Today, I need to share an important update about the future of our subscription boxes.
What’s Changing
Effective immediately, we will be stepping away from Baseball, Basketball, and Football subscription boxes, as well as all Multi-Sport subscription products.
Moving forward, Hit Box Sports Cards will be focused exclusively on Hockey, so this means that all non-Hockey subscriptions will be discontinued going forward. All boxes for the remainder of May will be fulfilled, but as of June 1st we will be Hockey only.
Customers with existing subscriptions that include Hockey alongside other products will be contacted directly so we can review options and make sure everything is handled as smoothly as possible.
Why This Is Happening
The short version is simple:
The current market for sealed product outside of Hockey no longer allows us to deliver the level of value our customers expect.
Over the past year, we’ve seen:
- Significant increases in sealed product pricing
- Reduced availability of wholesale product
- Growing reliance on inflated secondary market sourcing
While product is still technically available, obtaining it consistently at reasonable pricing has become increasingly difficult. Continuing down that path would force us to fundamentally change how we build our boxes and what customers receive for their money.
That’s not something we’re willing to do.
From day one, Hit Box has been built around value, consistency, and trust. We are not interested in passing inflated secondary market costs directly onto our customers simply to keep certain categories alive.
What We’ve Tried
Over the past two years, we’ve made significant efforts to secure stable, direct access to product. That has included pursuing a Topps Direct account and engaging in multiple conversations at the director level within Fanatics.
Despite those efforts, the current distribution landscape remains unchanged for businesses like ours.
In May, we also explored reducing the minimum number of packs per box in an effort to offset rising per-pack costs. While that may have addressed pricing at a surface level, it did not solve the underlying supply issues that are driving the current market challenges.
This decision is not the result of a lack of planning or effort, it’s the result of recognizing that the current system does not allow us to operate in a way that meets our standards or the expectations of our customers.
Looking Ahead
While this is a difficult decision, I believe it’s the right one.
Hockey continues to provide the type of product availability, pricing, and consistency that allows us to deliver the experience Hit Box is known for. By focusing fully on Hockey, we can continue improving quality, maintaining strong value, and building something long-term.
If the broader market changes in the future, we are always open to revisiting other sports. But for now, our priority is protecting the standard our customers expect from us.
Final Thoughts
This isn’t about stepping back, it’s about staying true to what made Hit Box successful in the first place. We’d rather focus on doing one thing as the standard we demand than compromise the experience that customers have come to expect.
As always, I sincerely appreciate the support this community has shown us over the years, and I’m excited for what comes next.
