The End of an Era for Hit Box

This is a post I’ve been putting off writing, but after five years, I'm bringing the Hit Box Sports Cards subscription program to a close.

I started Hit Box at my kitchen table with to goal of putting together a fun sports card subscription box at a fair price, and give collectors something to look forward to every month. At it's peak we grew larger than I ever envisioned, shipping hundreds of boxes a month to collectors across Canada, the US, Australia and the UK.

As of now, the economics of the hobby have continued to get more difficult. As of Tuesday morning, Canada has implemented counter-tariffs affecting new sports cards and any sports cards sourced through the United States. These additional costs compounded with overall price increases mean we need to consider increasing prices or reducing what goes into the boxes, but at some point that defeats the entire reason the subscription existed in the first place.

As disappointed as I am, the writing is on the wall and it's time to move on. Any existing subscriptions will continue until the end of September, and inventory is reserved for those customers, but there will be no October boxes.

Thank you to everyone who has purchased a Hit Box, whether you tried a single one-time box or subscribed for years. I want to extend an especially heartfelt thank you to those customers who have been with Hit Box since the very beginning. Some of you took a chance when we weren't established in the hobby, and you continued opening our boxes month after month as the business grew.

I am frustrated and disappointed, but I choose to close up the program knowing that I won't offer something I no longer believe delivers enough value.
