Canada Post is on Strike

As of 12:01am EST this morning, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has gone on a nation-wide strike. Unfortunately, they have not opted for rolling strikes or slow downs and the entire network has ceased operations at this time.

Full details and updates on the strike will be provided by Canada Post as it progresses: https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/our-company/news-and-media/corporate-news/negotiations/2024-11-15-cupw-announces-national-strike-that-will-cause-service-delays-for-canadians

All Canadian orders going forward will be shipped with UPS where that is an option. Certain rural municipalities and PO Boxes are not serviced by UPS however. UPS is expected to see a significant increase in volume due to the strike, so delivery delays are expected.

For American and International customers we are still attempting to establish alternate shipping options. As a small business we rely on Shopify and their partners for discounted shipping rates, and at this time Shopify has no other options available. Third party carriers like UPS and FedEx are both considerably more expensive, and charge additional fees to the receiver for customs clearance.

If no other options become available delivery will be delayed until the strike is resolved.

If you have an order already in the postal system it will be secured and delivered at the resolution of the Strike in a first-in-first-out basis. Depending on the length of the strike significant delays can be expected.

Feel free to contact us if you wish to inquire about shipping options for your deliveries. We can provide quotes for the carrier of your choice, but additional costs and fees should be expected.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this difficult time.

Canada Post financial will continue to deteriorate until a drastic re-organization structure is done. For the on-going dispute,
I suggest that the management make an offer to provide a golden parachute to those who wants to go on early retirement to pave way for a sufficient salary increase for those who will remain working and have a new scaled=down Table of Organization.

The financial cost can be obtained from government treasury which shall be paid from future savings.

While this maybe construed as union-busting during a CBA negotiation, I am sure the union members will ratify this recommendation as its the only solution to keep the Canada Post existence. Both parties will be happy at the conclusion of the CBA negotiation

I have done this approach successfully in my 35 years of labor relations experience as chairman of management negotiating panel in around 30 CBA negotiations.

    For consideration.

    Thank you.
